Holiday Treats for Kitties

As the holidays approach, many people are baking special seasonal treats for their friends and family members. If you have a kitty, your furball may also find herself with some special snacks at this time of year. It’s perfectly fine to pamper your cute pet with some yummy treats. Just be sure to only give Fluffy things that are safe for her: many of our favorite holiday foods are toxic to cats. Read on as a local Marietta, GA vet lists some good holiday treats for cats.

Meat

Meat can make a great snack for your furry friend. Shredded deli meat is one good option. Fluffy can also enjoy little pieces of steak, beef, or hamburger. We recommend cutting your furball’s meat into tiny portions. Some meats, like liver, bacon, or sausage, are only safe in very small amounts. A few bites on occasion may be okay, but don’t overdo it: these things can make your kitty very sick! It’s best to err on the side of caution, and choose a safer treat. Ask your vet for more information.

Poultry

Turkey can be a great snack or treat for kitties. Just be sure to only give your furry buddy plain, cooked, boneless meat, with the skin and fat removed.

Fish

Many types of fish are safe for our feline overlords. Some good options are salmon, mackerel, cod, whitefish, and, of course, tuna. Just be sure to remove the bones, skin, and fat before giving your kitty her snack. Also, never give your cat raw fish.

Cat Milk

Contrary to popular belief, regular milk actually isn’t good for cats. In fact, many of our feline pals are lactose intolerant! While some cats can have a small bit of milk now and then, it really isn’t the best treat for them. However, you can give Fluffy cat milk, which is sold in many pet stores and groceries.

Broth

Gravy isn’t a good option for Fluffy: it’s often much too rich for her, and could contain dangerous ingredients like garlic and onions. Offer your furry pal a bit of sodium-free broth instead.

Kitty Grass

Why not pick up a container of cat grass for your feline friend to nibble on? Many kitties love this nutritious treat! Check your local pet stores.
