8 Reasons That Cats Are So Tired

Cats certainly are sleepy little furballs. Fluffy can sleep as much as 20 hours a day, though she averages a ‘mere’ 16 or so. Why are our feline pals so drowsy? Is being adorable really that exhausting? A Marietta, GA vet discusses kitty sleeping habits in this article.

Precautions

Overheating can be very dangerous for our feline friends. Your kitty can only sweat through her paw pads, and panting doesn’t cool her off the way it does Fido. Cats may have learned to be very, very careful not to overexert themselves. Is Fluffy taking things a little too far by napping to recuperate every time she walks across the kitchen? It’s very ‘pawsible.’

Fur Distribution

If you have a cat, you’re probably not unfamiliar with having fur all over your clothes and belongings. Kitties take their fur-spreading duties very seriously! If Fluffy sees a spot that doesn’t have enough pet hair on it, she’ll dutifully fall asleep there.

Practice

By the time your furball is a senior, she’ll be a napping expert, capable of sleeping up to 20 hours a day. Fluffy won’t reach napping-ninja status without practice, however. She’ll spend time every day training to increase her napping times.

Kitty Duties

Kitties take their duties as pets very seriously. One of Fluffy’s most important tasks is making sure your lap stays warm. Our feline buddies are also very dedicated to relaxing their humans. A purring cat is a great sleep aid!

Fur Protection

Fluffy spends hours each day trying to keep her coat soft and shiny. Maybe your furry little diva doesn’t want to mess up her new ‘do!

Boredom

Did you know that cats can—and do—get bored? If your feline companion is sleeping more than she should be, she may not have enough catnip mice to push under the couch.

Love

Cats are very cuddly, and often love to snuggle up with their humans. Even if Fluffy spent the majority of her day sleeping, she’ll still curl up beside you at night, just to show you that she cares.

Charging Catteries

Does your kitty have a fondness for sleeping in the sun? We’re pretty sure that cats don’t actually run on solar, but they are purrticularly fond of sunbeams!
