Thanksgiving isn’t far off! Many people are already starting to make plans for the big day. Man’s Best Friend also has a few Turkey Day traditions to look forward to. A Marietta, GA vet lists some of them below.
Playtime!
Even if you usually play with your four-legged buddy at night, we recommend taking a few minutes to toss a ball or stick for your canine pal in the morning. The point is to tire Fido out a bit. That way, he’ll be calmer when guests start to arrive.
Door Doggy
One of the many things we love about dogs is the way they let us know when there’s someone at the door. Fido may be quite busy announcing guests! If your furry friend gets a bit too enthusiastic about greeting people, work on his petiquette. On Thanksgiving, you may want to keep him in another area as people are coming and going, especially if he’s on the large side. You don’t want him knocking your grandma over!
Beg
Fido has many talents, but his remarkable ability to look sad and hungry, even when he’s not, will be on full display today. Dogs are very, very good at convincing us to share yummy foods. While we don’t condone begging, it’s fine to give your pooch a special treat or even make him a plate. Just stick to safe options. Turkey is, of course, a great choice. Your pet can also have plain, cooked meat or fish. Just remove the skin, bones, and fat.
Walk
For many people, walking their dogs is an absolute must, for sanitary reasons. However, even pups with yards to run around in will benefit from those regular strolls. Wind down after that delicious meal by taking your furry best friend for a stroll. This is also a great way to shake off that food coma!
Strike A Pose
We may be a bit biased, but we think our canine patients are the cutest. Snap some adorable pics of your pet. After all, Fido is part of the family!
Cuddles
Once everyone has gone home, enjoy some quiet quality time with Fido. Leftovers, a great movie or TV show, and your furry bff make for a great end to this special day!
Happy Thanksgiving! Please reach out if ever we can be of assistance. As your Marietta, GA veterinary clinic, we’re here to help!
