Dog Care Tips For Back To School Time

Believe it or not, summer is winding down, and the kids are heading back to the classroom. This can be a little hard on some of our canine friends. After being able to run and play with his human buddies all summer, your furry friend will now have to wait for them to come home. Read on as a Marietta, GA vet offers tips on keeping Fido happy and entertained at this time of year.

Hazards

As we all know, many dogs have a habit of chewing on things that aren’t supposed to be food. Keep your pet’s health and safety in mind as you sort out all those back-to-school supplies. Pens, pencils, paper clips, crayons, markers, and scissors can all be choking hazards to a playful pup. Store these things out of paws’ reach.

Playtime

Many kids are pretty busy with after-school activities these days. Don’t forget about Fido! Make time to play with your dog every day. On weekends and/or slower days, opt for fun family activities you can include your canine buddy in, like visiting a park or beach or just playing Frisbee.

Doggy Schedule

Before everyone heads off to work and school for the day, give Fido a good breakfast. Then, take him for a walk and, if possible, play with him for a few minutes. If your four-legged friend is tired, he’ll probably spend a chunk of the morning napping. This will make his alone time pass more quickly. Also, if your dog’s schedule will change when the kids go back to school, get him adjusted to his new routine in advance.

Puppy Entertainment

Make sure your furry pal has lots of toys to play with. A good chew toy and/or a puzzle toy can keep Fido entertained for hours! Also, leave a TV or radio on for your pooch. Many dogs crave the sound of human voices, so the background noise can help your cute pet feel more at ease.

Love

Last but not least, remember to spend time with your dog every day, and pay lots of attention to him. Walks, exercise, toys, treats, playtime, and treats will all help your furry buddy feel loved and cared for, and keep that cute tail wagging.
